Housing Law, Advocacy & Advice

Derbyshire Housing Aid (DHA) is recognised as the Housing Advice expert in the Derbyshire area, and carries the Specialist Help Charter Mark from the Legal Services Commission.

The Training delivered through the ASK Project is the same Training that many of DHAÕs own staff undertake, and includes an overview of various aspects of English Housing Law.

The opportunity to gain an OCN qualification in this subject is almost unique, particularly as it may greatly enhance employment prospects.

The course consists of a combination of class discussions, work sheets, class hand-outs, power-point presentations, and a small amount of independent coursework outside of the classroom.

By the end of the course the learner will be able to;

¥ Demonstrate an understanding of effective questioning and interviewing techniques used by advice workers
¥ Understand the importance of organisational policies and procedures
¥ Understand the importance of detailed and accurate case recording
¥ Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of English Housing Law as it applies to Homelessness; Security of Tenure; possession proceedings; illegal eviction; harassment; disrepair; Welfare Benefits; the role of the local authority; and other areas related to Housing
